From the chemical structure, the AS plastic molecular chain contains acrylonitrile and styrene units. Acrylonitrile units give the material good hardness, chemical resistance and thermal stability; styrene units give it good processability, gloss and transparency. This copolymer combines the advantages of the two monomers, making its performance between polyacrylonitrile and polystyrene.
AS plastics are usually colorless transparent or yellowish transparent granular materials. Its density is about 1.07 - 1.10g/cm³, it has high hardness and rigidity, and its impact resistance is better than polystyrene, but not as good as ABS plastic. Its chemical resistance is good, can withstand many common chemicals, such as acid, alkali mild corrosion, but more sensitive to some organic solvents. AS plastic also has good thermal stability, can maintain its physical properties in a certain temperature range, and has good gloss and transparency, light transmittance can reach 88%-92%.
